FAQ

I need help using the Digital Archives.

Check out our user guides! You can find the Digital Archives Guides by clicking this link: https://slcl.recollectcms.com/nodes/view/3303

If you need further assistance, email us at genealogy@slcl.org or call the Library (314-994-3300) and ask for History & Genealogy.

Why can't I download items from the Digital Archives?

While downloads are not currently available, the History and Genealogy Department offers a free lookup service. Please complete the lookup request form for copies. Please note that some restrictions may apply, due to copyright restrictions. For more information, please visit the Lookups & Other Services page of the library’s website.

In lieu of downloads, we recommend using your computers snipping or screenshot tool to save images.

Alternatively, with an account, you can create private collections to save items for easy access. View our user guide for more information: https://slcl.recollectcms.com/nodes/view/3284

Do I really need an account to use the Digital Archives?

An account is not required to use the Digital Archives. However, some features are only available to account holders, such as Search History and private collections.

How do I cite a record found in the Digital Archives?

To cite an item in the Digital Archives, click on the Quotation Icon to the left of an item and a citation will be created.

How do you decide what to add to the Digital Archives?

Upload decisions are based on perceived usefulness of the items. Most materials uploaded to our archive are items that are only available through St. Louis County Library, or which are frequently used by our patrons.

Can I suggest an item for addition to the Digital Archives?

Yes! Please fill out the following form if you have requests or suggestions, and our Digital Collections Librarian will get back to you: https://www.slcl.org/research-learn/genealogy/digital-archives/assistance
